The 100th Day of School

Here are some of the things that went on in our room on 100 day!

The kids worked together creating things out of 100 objects.  Here are some of the things that they worked on:

Counting 100 drops of water was fun!

They could not believe it did not fill up the whole cup!

100 loose parts

100 Unifix Cubes

100 Blocks.

100 K-nex

100 animals

100 Pattern Blocks

They also enjoyed predicting which 100 collections they brought in were heavier, lighter, or equal.

We watched a video called "People in Order" that showed people from all over the world from 1 year old all the way to 100 years old.  You can view it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUHLa1qSy24.  It is a beautiful video that shows how we age.  We discussed the video and what happened as the people got older.  They noticed that their hair is turning white (of coarse one kindergartner had to comment, "Like your hair is turning white Mrs. Myers!"), their skin got more wrinkly, some of the men were going bald, etc.  The kids then created a self portrait that showed what they would look like when they were 100 years old.  Here are some examples of their creations.

The kids practiced counting to 100 by creating groups of 10 fruit loops on a 100 chart, then used their fine motor skills to string the fruit loops onto a piece of yarn to create a necklace to represent 100. This process takes longer than you would think!  Their stamina was pushed to the limit but they just reminded themselves of our class mantra: "In Kindergarten, we do hard things!"

We ended the day by taking the 100 collections that the kids brought in and presenting them in creative ways at our tables to create a 100 museum, along with our other 100 creations.

They made labels for their displays and the other 100 creations and invited Mrs. Kelly's class to come and enjoy our 100 Museum.

I think when we come back on Monday, we will try to record 100 acts of kindness in one day!  With this group, that will be an easy task!
